Review VMware Forum 2012 – Germany

Yesterday I attended the VMware Forum 2012 in Frankfurt/Germany. For me this was an amazing event, because I won the brand new iPad 3 and as if that wasn’t enough I also won an iPod Nano. So thank you very much VMware for my new iPad and thank you VMturbo for the iPod 🙂

What a lucky day 🙂

Ok now some details about the event…. It begun with a keynote by Jörg Hesske (Country Manager VMware Germany), who presented some interesting numbers and facts about VMware followed by some success stories and announcements of big VMware customers (like T-Systems). After this start there had been 3 parallel sessions, hold by VMware and partners (Cisco, EMC etc.). Some sessions had been quite interesting and some other not. Of course that’s my point of view as an admin. Surely I would have loved some sessions with a technical deep dive etc., but VMware focused a lot on virtualization beginners and also IT-managers etc., which want to get some general information on products (like View, SRM etc.). Mostly I enjoyed a detailed live demo of vCenter Operations Manager.

Besides the sessions there had been a small sponsor & partner exhibition. During the breaks I took a look at some live demos of VMware Socialcast and VMware Octupus, which both made good impression. Also I used the opportunity to take a look at Samsung’s new cloud displays, which could become an option for our upcoming VMware View project.

Below you find some bad pictures 🙂 (A shame I didn´t win a new smartphone with a better cam 🙂 )
